Notes
1. If it is likely that you may wish to continue your holiday and wish to
extend your stay, make sure your insurer covers this. Many do, so make sure
you pick the right one.
2. Many home insurers need to be notified, if your house is empty for over
30 days, so make sure if you do extend your holiday you can contact them.
3. Some companies offer different levels of cover i.e. platinum cover,
which may seem desirable, as you think you are getting more cover. However,
in some cases you end up paying more for the same amount of cover. This is
because, insurers put desirable claim figures such as £20million on a
platinum cover, which in may seem a good cover, but in reality, a claim will
never reach this amount, and so you don't gain anything, from paying that
bit extra.
AND - check you have cover for cancellations and curtailments,
loss of your luggage and possessions ( including lost cash) , legal expenses
and delay.
Help to Decide - quick summary of policy types.
Annual policy
For most people who have more than one holiday a year, it is often cheaper
for you to take out a annual policy.
There is often a varied maximum number of days available with annual
polices, so be careful to chose the one suitable for you.
Single
If this will be the only holiday you go on this year, then you will only
need a single policy. When taking out your policy always check you are covered
for any extra activities.
Winter Sports
Please note that specialist policies are needed for winter sports holiday.
This is often a lot more expensive, as a result of the increased risk from
the activities.
It is also important to check that your sporting equipment is covered in
your policy.
It is essential that on this type of holiday you have, relevant personal
liability insurance, in case of injury to others, relevant medical cover, and
personal accident cover, especially if you participate in off piste activities.
In some cases it is often cheaper in the long run to take out a annual
policy, with the add on option of including winter sports, as opposed to
taking out a separate winter sports policy for those who like to have both
skiing and summer holidays.
