It's cheap... but is it any good?
What to watch out for when buying on priceThere are thousands of places to buy travel insurance on the internet and some great travel insurance deals. But since everyone's needs are different and policies can be tailored to suit - it's all down to you and the decision you make.
However, to ensure the policy you buy is cheap and good - and not cheap and nasty, check out the check list of 10 things to look for before you buy your new policy.
10 things to look for before you buy
1. Check the amount of excess you have to
pay in relation to a claim. Most claims are for small amounts relating to
loss of possessions, cash, cameras, baggage, medical bills
and not for Hurricanes and Hijacks. If the excess is high, chances are you'll
pay for the loss out of your own pocket.
2. The scope of the cover - are you covered for everything you will be doing.
3. Are there any restrictions on the number of journeys and duration of stay
4. Or restrictions on types of claims
5. Are there any exclusions on what you are covered for
6. Do aspects of the cover only relate to the policy holder and not the full party
7. Are there any unreasonable demands or restrictive procedures you have to follow to validate or make a claim
8. Any special notice you need to give regarding medical conditions
9. Are you covered for business trips or travelling alone on a joint policy
10. Is there a 24 hour Helpline should you need to make a claim.
One simple rule applies:
You can pay a lot for Travel Insurance and find you are not covered when you come to make a claim.
Or you can pay a little for Travel Insurance and be fully covered when you come to make a claim.
The trick is to buy the cover you need and don't forget what you have bought.
